Best Feed for High Milk Producing Cows

Updated 13 Jun 2026 • By Falah Enterprises, Authorized GOKA Feeds Distributor Anantnag

A cow producing 20, 25 or 30+ liters per day is an athlete - and athletes cannot perform on ordinary diets. High producers have massive energy, protein and mineral demands that normal feeds simply cannot meet. Feeding them right protects their production, fertility and body condition.

Common Signs

  • Cow produces 20+ liters but is losing weight
  • Milk yield falls quickly after peak
  • High yielder not coming into heat
  • Low fat/SNF despite high milk volume

Possible Causes

  • Standard feed cannot supply enough energy density for high production
  • Missing bypass fat and bypass protein
  • Dry matter intake limit reached - the cow physically cannot eat more low-density feed
  • Mineral and vitamin demand of high production not met

What the Farmer Should Check

  • Actual daily milk yield - weigh it for 3 days
  • Feed quantity: is it 1 kg per 2.5 liters plus 1 kg maintenance?
  • Is the feed designed for the cow's production level?
  • Body condition - is the cow milking off her back?

Feed Guidance

Match the feed to the production level. 15-22 liters: Goka Challenger 8000. 20-25 liters: Goka 8000+. 22-28 liters: Goka Gold 10000+ premium mash. Above 25 liters or freshly calved high yielders: Goka Amrit. Up to 30-35 liters: Goka Farmline with bypass fat and bypass protein. These high-density feeds deliver more nutrition per kg, so the cow gets what she needs within her physical eating capacity. For champion producers, ask us about TMR (Total Mixed Ration) planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is bypass protein and why does it matter for high yielders?

Protein protected from rumen breakdown that gets digested directly in the intestine - giving high producers usable protein where they need it for milk synthesis.

My high-yielding cow is losing weight - is that normal?

Mild loss after calving is normal, but continuous loss means the feed energy is too low for her output. Upgrade to a high-density feed like Goka Farmline or Amrit.

Can I just feed more of a cheaper feed instead?

Beyond a point, no - a cow can only eat so many kilograms per day. High yielders need more nutrition per kg, not just more kgs.
