Spring Green Fodder Flush - Feeding Guide
Updated 13 Jun 2026 • By Falah Enterprises, Authorized GOKA Feeds Distributor Anantnag
Common Signs
- Swollen left side of the belly after grazing (bloat - an emergency)
- Very loose, green dung
- Milk fat percentage falling despite more milk volume
- Animal eats grass eagerly but ignores dry fodder
Possible Causes
- Sudden switch from winter dry feeding to lush grass shocks the rumen
- Young spring grass is very low in fiber and high in fast-fermenting sugars
- Legume-rich pastures (clover) increase bloat risk
- Fiber shortage reduces cud chewing and milk fat
What the Farmer Should Check
- Are animals given dry fodder BEFORE going out to fresh pasture?
- Is grazing time on lush pasture increased gradually - starting with 1-2 hours?
- Is the left flank checked after grazing for swelling?
- Is milk fat holding at the collection center?

When to Contact a Veterinary Doctor
For serious symptoms, consult a qualified veterinary doctor. Feed support can help overall nutrition and recovery but should not replace veterinary treatment.
