Repeat Breeding Problem in Dairy Animals
Updated 13 Jun 2026 • By Falah Enterprises, Authorized GOKA Feeds Distributor Anantnag
Common Signs
- Animal returns to heat every 18-24 days after insemination
- Three or more services without conception
- Weak or unclear heat signs (silent heat)
- Thin body condition or recent heavy weight loss
- History of difficult calving or retained placenta
Possible Causes
- Negative energy balance - animal milking heavily while underfed
- Mineral deficiencies, especially phosphorus, copper and iodine
- Poor body condition score (below 2.5)
- Uterine infection after previous calving
- Wrong timing of insemination
- Heat stress in summer
What the Farmer Should Check
- Body condition score - is the animal too thin?
- Is feed quantity matched to milk production plus maintenance?
- Is a mineral mixture or mineral-rich compound feed being given daily?
- Was there any discharge or infection after last calving?
- Is heat detection being done twice daily, morning and evening?

When to Contact a Veterinary Doctor
For serious symptoms, consult a qualified veterinary doctor. Feed support can help overall nutrition and recovery but should not replace veterinary treatment.
