Goat and sheep rearing is growing fast in Kashmir - for meat, milk and wool. But most flocks are raised on grazing alone, which limits growth and breeding performance. A small daily amount of balanced concentrate feed dramatically improves weight gain, kid/lamb survival and milk.
Common Signs
- Slow weight gain in kids and lambs
- Thin adult animals despite grazing

- Poor milk in lactating does

Possible Causes
- Grazing-only diet lacks energy and minerals, especially in winter
- No extra feeding for pregnant and lactating animals
- Worm load from grazing
- Mineral deficiencies affecting growth and breeding
What the Farmer Should Check
- Body condition of the flock - can you feel spine bones sharply?
- Are pregnant and lactating animals getting extra feed?
- Is deworming done regularly?
- Is winter feeding adjusted when pasture is poor?
Feed Guidance
Feed Goka Premium Goat & Sheep Feed daily by body weight: Kids/Lambs (10-15 kg): 200-350 gm. Growing (15-25 kg): 400-600 gm. Adults (25-50 kg): 700-1000 gm. Pregnant: 800-1000 gm. Lactating (35-50 kg): 1.0-1.15 kg. Breeding bucks (40-60 kg): 1.0-1.2 kg. Enriched with Vitamin AD3E, calcium, phosphorus and zinc, it covers exactly what grazing misses.
